MELBOURNE, May 30, 2008 (Dow Jones Commodities News via Comtex) -- -- Equigold NL (EQI.AU) said Friday its shareholders have voted in favor of a scheme of arrangement that will allow Lihir Gold Ltd. (LGL.AU) to proceed with its A$1 billion takeover of the company.

Perth-based Equigold said 94.3% of shareholders voted in favor of the scheme for the deal, which sees investors receive 33 Lihir shares for every 25 Equigold shares held.

The scheme is now scheduled to be heard in the Federal Court of Australia on June 3 and Equigold said, if it is approved, it will request the Australian Securities Exchange suspend its shares on June 4.
